he Sergio Leone “spaghetti westerns” did not simply add a new chapter to the genre…they reinvented it. From his shockingly violent and stylized breakthrough, A Fistful of Dollars, to the film Quentin Tarantino calls “the best-directed movie of all time,” The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Leone’s vision did for westerns what talkies did for all movies back in the 1920s: it elevated them to an entirely new art form. Fully restored, presented in high definition with their best-ever audio, and including audio commentaries, featurettes and more, these films are much more than the definitive Leone collection...they are the most ambitious and influential westerns ever made. A Fistfull Of Dollars Clint Eastwood’s legendary “Man With No Name” makes his powerful debut in this thrilling, action-packed classic in which he manipulates two rival bands of smugglers and sets in motion a plan to destroy both in a series of brilliantly orchestrated setups, showdowns and deadly confrontations. For A Few Dollars More Oscar® Winner Clint Eastwood** continues his trademark role in this second installment of the trilogy, this time squaring off with Indio, the territory’s most treacherous bandit. But his ruthless rival, Colonel Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef, High Noon), is determined to bring Indio in first...dead or alive! The Good, The Bad And The Ugly The invincible “Man With No Name” (Eastwood) aligns himself with two gunslingers (Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach) to pursue a fortune in stolen gold. But teamwork doesn’t come naturally to such strong-willed outlaws, and they soon discover that their greatest challenge may be to stay focused – and stay alive – in a country ravaged by war.

  • stop with the 'bad' hype!!5
Hold on people...don't believe the negative reviews of these fantastic transfers. Hate it when people downplay a product before its even released!! Got a hold of these and compared the 'aspect ratio' to the laserdiscs from 1990 (boy, did transfers come a long way) and it seems that even the laserdisc is not 'perfect' in its reproduction of these classics...so what if a little is cropped at the near bottom (many scenes show sloppy cinematography anyway-when Clint bends his head down out of the frame while eating at the Cantina in 'Fistful') these transfers beat the hell out of pan and scan ANYDAY!! Enjoy these immaculate transfers for what they are...low budget westerns filmed with low film stock (what do you expect from Techniscope anyway)and stop nit-pickin' and give these films a chance. I too am very finicky about aspect ratios, but when all said and done it will be fifty bucks well spent (my only compaint-why wasn't 'Duck you suckers' included with this fine Leone set?) In the bouncy romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler aim to be a contemporary Nick and Nora for an audience that's never even heard of The Thin Man. Ex-cop-turned-bounty hunter Milo Boyd (Butler, 300) is ecstatic when he gets his new assignment: his ex-wife, reporter Nicole Hurley (Aniston), has skipped bail to pursue a breaking story. Naturally, when he catches her, he also gets caught up in the mystery--though the mystery is really just an excuse for quirky comic bickering between the estranged lovebirds. Refreshingly, the script has the kind of off-beat rhythms and flavors of comedy-action flicks like Midnight Run, Out of Sight, and Something Wild, and the supporting cast (featuring Christine Baranski, Mamma Mia!; Peter Greene, Pulp Fiction; Jeff Garlin, Curb Your Enthusiasm; Siobhan Fallon, Saturday Night Live; Cathy Moriarty, Raging Bull; and beloved character actress Carol Kane) is a colorful collection of great faces and pungent personalities. It's unfortunate that the leads are a tad bland; Aniston and Butler aren't bad, but they don't have the snap, crackle, and pop that the movie craves. Nonetheless, The Bounty Hunter rises above the average Hollywood rom-com. --Bret Fetzer

  • Another great piece of art of New York's lifestyle.5

The fifth film about the New York police, I saw a few months. The new generation of artists, Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, the monotony of seeing Travolta, Robinsons Williams and Bruce Willis. At least, with new faces, enjoy the surprise with a completely new narrative of the events, places, people and social events. The cultural diversity of the New York Film enriched in every way you look like. • Sandra Bullock finally shows us how good she can be5

My wife and I went on a double role. I have chosen avatar, and the weak side. Now it is two movies on a plate and avatars blind side, but I am very happy that he was seeing me to this film. Avatar, I gave four stars, five stars blind side. Blind Side, by was, what was fine. Blind Side tells the story, because it is the true story of the 2009 Baltimore Ravens right tackle Michael one more attraction, or Michael Williams, or maybe something else, and his flight probably forget the love and care of a rich white family in Memphis, Tennessee. Another attraction is the size of Michael, appeared for the first time in his size and athletic potential and the courage to forget and move forward. Another attraction of Michael, a boy who fought in learning skills and basic education, but he shot 98% in the protective instinct. to survive a tribute to their lifestyle and their ability, the homeless, with two shirts, a pain in the face could not be explained. Sandra Bullock plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, and I saw many films nominated this year, but there are at least a finalist for best actress of the year, I'll be stunned. It was great when Sandra Bullock. She is strong and it is funny and very bright, to the tears that are in the course of the film as seen Personna not flowed to hide tears. Poigniant scene was not one that is in a room of Michael at his home with a beautiful chipperness you expect from a courageous mother, Tennessee. Michael said: "I've never had this before." She said: "What place?" "No, a bed." Er. Said she looked sideways, front, gives a quick motion and leaves the room, go to the bathroom and shut the door and even if we do not see, we know exactly what you are doing. The Blind Side is a Testim that life is all. Family link to Michael Tuohy Another attraction may have been a rare event, it is also a film about it, but if everything is a little more "was, in spite of the limitations of color, despite the restrictions classes and showed only a little bit of love" and held out his hand when he could, the world would be a better place. The Tuohy reach not only spread your heart and life ..

  • Blu-Ray Review (not a review of the movie!)5
Five months after "Avatar" received its initial big-screen release, we are presented with its first release to the home-video market. Much has been written about the double and triple-dipping. We know this is a bare-bones release, devoid of ANY extras, special features, deleted scenes, commentary, etc. We know the studio is releasing a more complete edition of the film on Blu-ray in November 2010, and a 3D version at some point in the future. We've all heard the complaints from those who think this stripped-down version is merely a cash grab. So now Earth Day has arrived, and "Avatar" has been released in this bare-bones edition. For those who, like me, love the movie, and want to have something on-hand to enjoy until the more thorough release arrives in the months to come, is this worth it?

In a word, yes.

This Blu-ray is the movie only, with some basic search/bookmarking features and subtitles. There is no commentary, no trailers, no previews, no annoying advertisements that play before the movie starts. It's the movie only, much like the way DVDs presented films back in the early days of that format. You insert the disc (the disc loads and starts playing automatically in my Sony BDP-S570). There will be a moment or two of a blank screen as the disc loads. You'll see a brief message informing you to update your player's firmware if you experience any problems playing the disc. Then you'll see a piracy warning (thankfully it's brief), and then a basic Fox Home Video title screen. Now you come to a nicely animated menu screen, which gives you options to play the film, set up your options or search for a scene or bookmark.

The disc has an advanced feature which allows you to resume playback if you power your player off during the film playback. This option comes on automatically when you turn on the player again, even if you've removed the disc and reinserted it.

The video quality is astonishing, easily besting last month's Toy Story and Toy Story 2 releases from Disney. You have a full 16x9 (1.78:1) picture, which is how I remember the film being presented in RealD and Dolby 3D Digital in theatres. Colors are crisp and bright. No visible artifacts.

Audio is superb, a quite robust mix that will engage fully your 7.1 system.

This is the finest-looking Blu-ray of the year, thus far, and the best way to enjoy the film until the next more complete edition is released in November. Is this stripped-down edition a cash grab? I don't think so. I appreciate having a bare-bones release. It's refreshing to have a disc that is the movie only. Who needs all the junk that we get on most Blu-ray discs? Yes a making-of documentary would be fun, but is there anyone who loves the movie who doesn't already have some idea of the craft that went into making it?

This release is for people who love the movie, end of story. If you love the movie, you'll appreciate having such a wonderful, flawless transfer to enjoy in high definition at home. If you don't love the movie, you will find things to quibble about such as the lack of extras. I, for one, am happy with what we've got now.

  • End of the Trilogy, but not the end of Avatar5
I have to write something about this wonderful series, but I'm not going to write any spoilers, or tell you what happens. I know many of you have never watched any of the episodes, and don't want to know what happens, and those who have watched it do not care if I leave it out.

What I can say, though, is that this is one amazing show; as an overview for those who have no idea what the storyline is, just picture a messiah-type that has to rescue the world from being enslaved by an evil empire. The messiah (avatar) is what you would view as an underdog against unspeakable odds, but with incredible potential that flashes through occasionally. You may see similarities to such works as The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, or the Inheritance Cycle. They all have that common theme of an underdog destined or prophesied to set the captives free and defeat the evil empire. Avatar may be a little more like Star Wars than the others, as it has a definite Eastern mysticism element to it, and martial arts moves are a major portion of the action sequences.

One of my favorite parts of every episode is the comic relief: Sokka. Sure, all of the characters have comical incidents, but Sokka is without a doubt the character intended to bear the burden of comic relief, and he carries it off well. Yet, he is also the main one with the ideas.

With Book 3 and the entire series complete this year, I can say it progressively got better and more intense with each season. The character development is detailed and satisfying. This is one set to buy (after the other two sets, that is). It is sad that this is the last season, but there are intentions for a new Avatar series in the future, possibly with a different incarnation of the Avatar. The creators are said to have intended The Last Airbender as a three season arc, a sort of trilogy.

You may think it is really for kids, being animated and on Nickelodeon, but my wife and I, with two small children, are into it just as much as the kids are. If you have never tried watching it, I suggest you rent it from Netflix or Blockbuster to get a sampling of the quality of the show. It is best to start at the beginning, though, because it is a story extended over three seasons, and makes more sense if you watch in order. The only show on television that gets my attention more than this is Battlestar Galactica, which is also ending soon.

I was most pleased when I found out there will be a live action movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan based on Book 1, simply called The Last Airbender (to avoid confusion with a movie called Avatar by James Cameron coming out in 2009 - not related to the series), which should be out in July 2010. He intends to direct a trilogy based on the three seasons, separated by two years each, spending six years of his life on this storyline. That should say something about the series, as it is the first thing he has worked on that was not something he came up with himself.
